Microwaves
Buying a microwave isn't an everyday occurrence and chances are the microwave scene has changed a bit since the last time you shopped for one. Before you start looking, consider what you need and want in a microwave. Here are a few things to think about:
- Size - How much to you use a microwave? What do you use it for? How big a microwave do you need? How much space do you have to accommodate a microwave? Measure the location where you plan to put the microwave to determine the maximum size it will accommodate. Microwaves come in four sizes: compact (0.5-0.8 cubic feet), mid size (0.9-.13 cubic feet), family (1.4-1.6 cubic feet) and full size (1.8-2.0 cubic feet).
- Counter Top or Over the Stove - Counter top microwaves work well in many situations. If yours is a small kitchen with little counter space, you will want to consider an over the range microwave. Unless you are handy, over range microwaves will require professional installation.
- Wattage - Microwaves usually range from 600 to 1200 watts. The higher the wattage, the faster it will cook.
- Features - Microwaves are now available with a wide variety of features, from food sensor cooking settings to programmable features, touch defrost and popcorn settings. Some models now include a convection feature as well.
Coffee Makers
A coffee maker is a standard appliance in most kitchens. There are so many different options available now, it's sometimes difficult to decide which one is right for you. Here are a few things to consider when you are shopping for a coffee maker on your second hand appliances shopping trip.
- Size - How much coffee do you drink? How much coffee do you want to brew at one time? Choose between a one cupper, two to four cups, or eight to ten cups.
- Countertop or Under the Counter - Countertop models are the most common type of coffee maker sold, but under the counter coffee makers are a great option if your kitchen is small with limited counter space. They do require installation.
- Glass Carafe or Insulated Pot - If you're the type to drink coffee on and off all day, you might enjoy an insulated pot that keeps brewed coffee hot and fresh.
- Fast Drip or Slow Drip - There are different types of brewing processes. Most coffee makers use the water poured into the machine to brew the coffee, heating it in the process. Others keep heated water in a tank ready to brew at a moment's notice. Coffee brews quickly.
No matter what second hand appliances you are looking for, consider how much space you have to accommodate them, how you will use them, and what features you would like.
